Megan and I just returned from a 5 day stay in Tulum, Mexico. Kind of a last bit of hibernation mode until we start seeds and do it all over again! Here are some of the highlights.
The lodging was compliment of Hilton and included all of our meals and drinks. We typically started the day with a walk around 8:30 for about an hour, then on to full breakfast buffet, literally everything you could imagine. The highlights for me were egg whites with salsa, sauteed veggies, bacon, capers, smoked salmon, fresh fruit and sourdough bread. Y'all know I am a big boy, that kind of machine requires some serious fuel!
Next came some lounging around the pool, which was right by the beach super convenient like. Between the pool and ocean sessions, we would typically read, play gin or backgammon, or snack at the pool bar which also had very good food. Roundabout 6 or so every day we would mozie on back to the room and get cleaned up for dinner.
The dinners were fantastic! Reservation was required and we settled on 7:30 every night. First night was Mediterranean, then Asian, Mexican, Italian and finally a very proper steak house. Appetizers, huge salads and excellent entrees every night, aka fat kid paradise!
A quick note about the service. This is our second experience in Mexico, and I have found the people to be very hardworking, considerate, friendly with excellent customer service! We brought pesos and didn't want to come back with any. Poolside drink service, dinner wait staff, transportation, and the cleaning ladies for our room were all graciously tipped, we were so thankful and happy to do so. The exchange rate was around 16x1 at the time we went.
We went on a side quest one day to visit some cenotes. A cenote is an underground cavern with fresh water. Apparently, there are around 10,000 estimated in the peninsula. We swam with life jackets in crystal clear water and basically went spelunking and swimming! Way cool glad we did that.

We are very thankful to have had such a rejuvenating week to prepare us for the months ahead. Hibernation for me begins in December and ends in early March. Some years are harder than others to awaken from my semi-slumber. The trips to the beach at the end of it are super helpful. March through November is my spiritual practice, make hay when the sun shines, they say.
